Multi-Culturalism
Northern Ireland is increasingly looking at a multicultural future. With a larger and more diverse ethnic population than the 2001 Census would suggest, how might we adapt our audience development strategies?
Understanding the barriers which prevent Section 75 groups from engaging with the arts is a vital issue in Theme 3 of the Arts Council’s 5 Year Strategy. Based on extensive research, Audiences NI’s Intercultural Engagement Report pinpoints barriers to attendance experienced by both the Chinese and Indian communities.

BT9 A Honeypot for Arts Marketers
In a random sample of the databases of 5 Belfast-based arts organisations of various sizes Audiences NI discovered that, on average, 10% of each organisation’s attenders live in the Belfast Postal District of BT9.
But what is BT9? Is it the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for arts marketers, overflowing with enthusiastic artistic people who just can't wait to attend more arts events? Or is it a honey-pot of wealthy people waiting to be carpet-bombed with as much print as arts organisations can throw at them?

In The Loop
A new resource for venues wishing to attract deaf and hard of hearing audiences has been developed by Audiences NI through its In the Loop project. Following the nine-month project, the resource comprises a database of deaf and hard of hearing individuals who would like to be kept informed and ‘in the loop’ about accessible arts events. The database is available to members of Audiences NI.
It is complemented by a report that outlines the project’s findings and offers guidance on communicating with deaf and hard of hearing audiences.
