New campaign responds to budget

Keepourartsalive, a joint campaign by the arts sector and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, will launch next week. It aims to improve the outcome for the arts through the NI Draft Budget 2008-2011 public consultation phase, which closes on 4th January 2008.

The website, www.keepourartsalive.com, will go live early next week and will offer the tools and information you will need to support the campaign. Included will be a fact file on the consequences for the arts of the Draft Budget 2008-2011; practical advice on who to contact and how to influence the consultation process; and information on how to get your views recorded at the regional public consultation meetings (see Article 3).

For further information, email mhendry@artscouncil-ni.org.

Final curtain to be drawn at the Lyric
It’s almost the end of a a very successful era on Ridgeway Street as Bah, Humbug! and The Wizard of Oz prepare to bring down the final curtain on a building where audiences have enjoyed forty years of great drama and witnessed the early careers of actors including Adrian Dunbar, Ciaran Hinds and Liam Neeson, now the theatre’s Patron.

The current venue closes on 13th January with a farewell fundraiser, Glinda’s Glitter Ball. Plans are at an advanced stage for a new £17milllion Lyric Theatre on the same site, with £2million still urgently required before construction on the new theatre can begin.
